Every College Covered in Prayer with Thai Lam

“As we’ve met so many students over the years and heard their stories, inevitably we hear, ‘Yeah, my mom has been praying.’” After decades of college ministry, this is the hope-filled conclusion! Today Stacy talks with the executive director of Luke18 project, Thai Lam. Listen in as he shares his heart for college ministry and how it all began with his own college experience.  Don’t miss his eyewitness account of the power of prayer and the opportunity to be a part of the Collegiate Day of Prayer.

ABOUT OUR GUEST:

Thai Lam is part of the leadership team of the International House of Prayer and serves as the executive director of Luke18 Project, a campus prayer movement that is contending for revival and equipping college students to be praying leaders. He also gives leadership to Collegiate Day of Prayer, America’s oldest concert of prayer for college campuses on the last Thursday of February. Thai has pioneered and led campus ministries at UC Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford, San Jose State, KU, and UMKC. Thai came to faith in Jesus as a freshman at UC Berkeley, graduated in Religious Studies, and then studied Cross-Cultural Missions at Fuller Seminary. Thai and his wife Angela reside in Kansas City with their 3 children — Noah, Cohen, and Selah.

SCRIPTURES:

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”

Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.  Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?” Luke 18:1-8 (NLT)

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

The Purpose of Prayer with Fern Nichols

“Are you frightened? Gather together and pray! God turned the world upside down through a few frightened followers.” What a powerful reminder! In 1984, Fern was fearful about sending her two eldest children off to junior high. She knew the school would be a battlefield for their hearts and minds. She realized the warfare would be intense and to fight in this battle she needed to invite other moms to pray. She called a mom and asked her to pray with her for their children and school. Her response was an immediate “yes,” and that was the humble beginning of Moms in Prayer that now spans the USA in every state and is in more than 150 countries.Fern has traveled to almost every continent in the world speaking, teaching and training women how to pray effectively. She and her husband Rle have been married 54 years. They were involved with Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU) for 15 years. They have four children and ten grandchildren.

SCRIPTURE:

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory. Isaiah 50:15 (NLT)

I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. Ezekiel 22:29 (NIV)

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13 (NIV)

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:24 (NIV)

A much sought-after speaker, Greg is a former pastor, church planter, youth leader, as well as the author of numerous books.

SCRIPTURE:

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (NIV)

After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. Acts 4:31 (NIV)

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
