Ode to Christmas and New Year’s hope

The stockings that were hung by the chimney with care
Are somewhere in the laundry with the underwear.
The tree that shimmered with ornaments and lights
Is now one-third lit after light-saber-fights.
The toddlers have toys all over the floor
But prefer the boxes that came from the store.
The teens are glued to the latest of games
And kids keep tripping over new cars and trains.
Christmas was fun but now it’s gone.
The New Year is coming January One.
The young lives that race through your house today
Will grow up and head to their own homes one day.
Christmas memories will last much longer than toys.
The New Year has hope for successes and joys.
Parenting is not for the faint of heart
But it is a great blessing our God does impart.
