1 Corinthians 4:1-8 | Victorious in Motherhood | Rachel Raih

Lord, give me that soft, teachable, moldable heart. May my heart be responsive to Your Potter hands however you want to mold it. We welcome back Moms in Prayer Heartland Division Coordinator, Rachel Raih, to talk through part one of 1 Corinthians chapter four. She reminds us of who we are in Christ and the joy of faithfully stewarding what He has given us. It is easy for us to fall into pride or comparison, but God has shown us a better way to live.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Rachel clearly remembers when she heard about Moms in Prayer International on a Focus on the Family radio broadcast featuring our Founder, Fern Nichols. Her heart was stirred and now she has been praying in a Moms in Prayer group for 34 years! After serving for 10 years as our Iowa State Coordinator, she now serves as our Heartland Division Coordinator, overseeing seven states. She plans to continue to pray in a group as long as the Lord gives her the physical and mental ability.

Her oldest son battled severe asthma which resulted in a number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations throughout his childhood on up to college. She would battle anxiety and fear whenever he developed a runny nose or cough and a feeling of dread would come over her. Many weeks he would be the one of the four children that were covered in prayer in her Moms in Prayer hour. This brought great peace, hope and strength. God answered so many prayers on his behalf and today he is healthy and his asthma is well controlled.

Rachel lives with her husband, Darrel, of 46 years in Sioux Center, Iowa. They have four adult children and the wonderful blessing of being grandpa and grandma to eight grandchildren.

SCRIPTURES

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 1 Corinthians 3:5 ESV

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brothers eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye, when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers eye. Matthew 7:3-5 NIV

To fear the Lord is to hate evil;

    I hate pride and arrogance,

evil behavior and perverse speech. Proverbs 8:13 NIV

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Amy and her husband live in Georgia. She heard about Moms in Prayer on the radio when her two sons were beginning elementary school and felt God's call to pray for them. As a former first grade teacher, she also knew how vital prayers are for our schools. She continues to pray in a group for her two sons (now young adults) and daughter-in-law. She also has the joy of serving as the Georgia State Coordinator.

She will forever be grateful for this prayer ministry that has been a lifeline in every season. SCRIPTURES

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and youll recover your life. Ill show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with mewatch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I wont lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and youll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 ESV

SCRIPTURES

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:20-21 NIV

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from abovespiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]. Ephesians 2:10 AMP

For we are Gods fellow workers [His servants working together]; you are Gods cultivated field [His garden, His vineyard], Gods building. 1 Corinthians 3:9 AMP

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5 NASB1995

SCRIPTURES

Teach us to number our days,

that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 NIV

For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:11 ESV

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. James 3:17 ESV

But, as it is written,

What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,

nor the heart of man imagined,

what God has prepared for those who love him 1 Corinthians 2:9

You have made them a little lower than the angels

and crowned them with glory and honor.

You made them rulers over the works of your hands;

you put everything under their[g] feet:

all flocks and herds,

and the animals of the wild,

the birds in the sky,

and the fish in the sea,

all that swim the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:5-9 NIV

ABOUT OUR GUESTS

Sally Burkes introduction to the ministry in 1990 was life changing. Compelled by joy and the hope God gave as she prayed with others for her children and their schools, Sally began to reach out and share with other momsfirst as a Moms in Prayer group leader, then area coordinator for her hometown of Temecula, California, and later as regional coordinator for Riverside County. In 2008, Sally became the Director of Field Ministry at Moms in Prayer headquarters, overseeing ministry expansion worldwide. Today, in her role as President of Moms in Prayer International, her vision remains unchanged, that more children and schools and moms might experience Gods life-changing answers to prayer. Sally is also an international speaker, teacher and author of Raise Them UpStart with PraiseUnshaken and the Unshaken Study Guide.

As a child growing up in Florida, Sally was fascinated with the space program and began her career as a space shuttle engineer with a Master of Science in Management. After her marriage and the birth of two children, Sally and her husband came to faith in Christ, and Moms in Prayer soon became a top priority. She and husband, Ed, now have four grown children, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. In her leisure time, youll find Sally on a walk/run, curled up with a good book or enjoying the company of friends.
