Ep. 56 : Breaking Free From the Cycle of Busyness with Daisy Fuentes Dronen

As busy moms, there is always something to do and somewhere to be it seems.

Some busyness is unavoidable based on the season of life you are in, but how busy is too busy?

And how does that affect our ability to really live?

This week I am bringing back one of my favorite conversations with my friend, Daisy Fuentes Dronen where we address how to break free from the crazy cycle of busyness.

Seriously, you are going to LOVE Daisy and the wisdom she has to share on this topic as she and I discuss:

  • The messages the world sends us about busyness
  • How busyness can affect our relationships
  • Tools the enemy uses against us as women
  • How God feels about busyness
  • And practical ways to slow down and prioritize how to spend our time

One of my favorite things Daisy shares in this episode is breath prayers and how to build a habit of slowing your mind and heart to dwell on God.

FAVORITE TAKEAWAYS:

As women we are created to be partners. To join others in service for example our spouses Eve was created to be a helpmate for Adam. As christian women we are called to very tangible service organizing creating coordinating things, even teaching. We even are taught and instructed to serve as Christ served, but we are not always taught how Christ served. We are already wired to be nurturers so we feel a great sense of purpose and pride when we see our work being accomplished. And we can quickly go through life believing that our worth is found in accomplishing. And we allow ourselves to be defined by our doing and accomplishing. We also don’t want to let anyone down and we believe we will have greater favor in doing. We have even believed that we could let God down.

Busyness can get into every crevice and before we know it we are completely missing our lives. -daisy

What messages does the world around us send to us about busyness?

  • Hustle
  • Independent woman achieve more
  • You can do anything you set your mind to
  • You’re just a stay at home mom
  • You can have it all
  • You are successful when you accomplish
  • Multi tasking is the new super power

What tools does the enemy use to cause our busyness to distract us from seeing the needs of others?

Corrie ten boom says “ if the devil can’t make you sin he will make you busy”

He uses Lies to

  • Cause division
    • You begin to think people are not carrying their own weight
    • They are never available
  • Self preoccupation
    • I am the only one that always…
    • Nobody cares about me
  • Fear
    • Afraid if i am not performing or accomplishing i am not favored
    • Afraid of missing out
  • Frenzy
    • In the frenzy of busyness we can’t stop enough to confess, to meditates, to be still to abide, to let God be God

How can we begin to take steps to recognize our own busyness?

  • First decide to find out- one of my favorite and most terrifying prayers comes from psalm 139 ‘Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!’Psalm 139:23-22
    • The Lord will accompany you in this process as well invite him in, he is ready and willing
  • Talk to your husband or close friend and ask them
  • Pay attention to comments such as i don’t know how you do it all
  • Make a list of all the things you are involved in or do just because you have always done them. Show them to God and I love how Emily p.freeman talks about which are life giving and which are life draining.
