ABOUT OUR GUESTS

Sally Burkes introduction to the ministry in 1990 was life changing. Compelled by joy and the hope God gave as she prayed with others for her children and their schools, Sally began to reach out and share with other momsfirst as a Moms in Prayer group leader, then area coordinator for her hometown of Temecula, California, and later as regional coordinator for Riverside County. In 2008, Sally became the Director of Field Ministry at Moms in Prayer headquarters, overseeing ministry expansion worldwide. Today, in her role as President of Moms in Prayer International, her vision remains unchanged, that more children and schools and moms might experience Gods life-changing answers to prayer. Sally is also an international speaker, teacher and author of Raise Them UpStart with PraiseUnshaken and the Unshaken Study Guide.

As a child growing up in Florida, Sally was fascinated with the space program and began her career as a space shuttle engineer with a Master of Science in Management. After her marriage and the birth of two children, Sally and her husband came to faith in Christ, and Moms in Prayer soon became a top priority. She and husband, Ed, now have four grown children, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. In her leisure time, youll find Sally on a walk/run, curled up with a good book or enjoying the company of friends.

Fern Nichols is a former elementary school teacher and the founder of Moms in Prayer International, a prayer movement that mobilizes women around the world to gather together to pray for their children and schools. In 1984, Fern was fearful about sending her two eldest children off to junior high. She knew the school would be a battlefield for their hearts and minds. She realized the warfare would be intense and to fight in this battle she needed to invite other moms to pray. She called a mom and asked her to pray with her for their children and school. Her response was an immediate yes, and that was the humble beginning of Moms in Prayer that now spans the USA in every state and is in more than 150 countries. Fern has traveled to almost every continent in the world speaking, teaching and training women how to pray effectively. She and her husband Rle have been married for over 50 years. They were involved with Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU) for 15 years. They have four children and 10 grandchildren.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Life-Giving! Thats what Moms in Prayer (MIP) has been to Marcy over the years. She has been praying in a MIP group since her children were 3, 6, and 8. She and her group prayed through every age, stage and situation, and now her kids are married with children of their own. Moms in Prayer was her best parenting tool because it brought her peace, taught her how to pray, and changed her responses by growing her love for the Lord and His word.

Dont just tell your children you will pray for them, pray out loud with them, so they can learn they can come to God with anything. Marcy Russo, our Moms in Prayer Southeast Division Coordinator, joins us on the podcast today to share how she taught her children to pray and some tips she learned along the way. She reminds us that it is not a list of how-tos, but simply living in the grace of God.

How to Persevere in Prayer

I am a recipient of His personal persistence. He has continued to walk with me when I, too, have grumbled against Him in the wilderness. Today Aubrie shares encouragement from a Moms in Prayer mom who was challenged by the Lord to be persistent in her prayer life. She reminds us how God persistently pursues us and how we can follow His example as we stay close to Him. Jesus ever lives to intercede for us and the Holy Spirit helps us pray in our weakness. What a gift!

We thank E.J. Baldwin for writing the blog that our podcast host is reading.

SCRIPTURES

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Luke 18:1 NIV

but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Hebrews 7:24-25 NIV

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:30-31 NIV

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Romans 8:26 ESV

Rejoicing Before the Outcome

God WILL fulfill what He has promised. Today Aubrie reads from Luke 1 to share the story leading up to Jesus birth. Both Zechariah and Mary received messages from the Lord through an angel, but they responded differently. Even though Mary hadnt seen everything unfold yet or know the outcome, her response was to praise and rejoice. May we be like Mary, having confidence in Who our God is, so we, too, can rejoice before the outcome.

SCRIPTURES

And Mary said, Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:38 ESV

For nothing will be impossible with God. Luke 1:37 ESV

And he came to her and said, Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you! Luke 1:28 ESV

But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. Luke 1:29 ESV

And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord. Luke 1:45 ESV
